Abstract

The article addresses the concept of crisis state in psychiatry, emphasizing the understanding of its progression and appropriate treatment methods. A crisis state is a temporary emotional reaction of an individual to a stressful event that exceeds their coping abilities. Such a state can be an opportunity for personal growth, but in cases of severe distress or prolonged duration, it can lead to mental disorders. The historical development of the concept of crises management and various approaches with significant commonalities are presented. The characteristic course of a crisis situation through specific phases, from the pre-crisis period to the phases of adjustment and recovery, is highlighted. Different types of crises, including developmental and traumatic crises, are described. The main part of the article defines crisis intervention. This is an approach to an individual in a crisis state, based on intensive treatment and includes emergency psychiatric assessment, short-term psychotherapy, and pharmacological treatment if necessary. The emphasis is on a holistic approach that combines psychotherapeutic techniques with the mobilization of support groups. The goal of crisis intervention is to restore functioning to the pre-crisis level and to promote personal growth through the development of new, more mature coping strategies. The article emphasizes that appropriate treatment is crucial for preventing long-term mental disorders and improving the individual's quality of life.
